Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Review

The fibers of rope scrape across your neck, as the noose is pulled tight. Quickly, you, Ezio Auditore, the Master Assassin, spin around and use the very same rope intended for your death on the executioner. A fitting beginning to the third installment of the series (fourth AC game, overall), Assassins Creed: Revelations. Your journeys will take you nearly everywhere across the known world and finding its darkest corners, finding great allies and even deadlier foes.

With its humble beginnings in 2007, Assassin’s Creed introduced legendary assassin, Altaïr ibn-La’Ahad, and was set in the Middle East during the Crusades. While providing a modern day parallel story line with protagonist Desmond Miles. The release of Assassin’s Creed II, introduced a new character, and current main character Ezio, which has been alluded to being a descendent of Altaïr. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, was the third game and a continuation of the Ezio and Desmond storylines. Ubisoft, the game studio creating the Assassin’s Creed series has been putting most of their energy on this series for the past few years and it is clearly showing.

As your blade pierces through countless unknowing guards, the blood soaks into your hands. Quickly, you survey the area to make sure you are not caught and are greeted by smooth textures and impeccable graphics on nearly every object the game is animating. Texture popping and glitches are nowhere to be found in this game, in conjunction with excruciatingly fine details everywhere, these graphics may be considered by some, perfect.

Not taking a back seat to graphics, the sound is amazing. From the snap of a rob as you ride it to the top of a building to the life like sounds of each of the weapons you use against your foes, everything in the game sounds realistic and immerses you deeper into the environment of the game.

With that being said, both contribute to the spectacular gameplay Revelations offer. Ezio’s story line continues in a vastly new region, a tumultuous Constantinople. The plot will not disappoint, with deeper discoveries of his brotherhood, and the usual love and political turmoil Assassin’s Creed fans have come to know and love, the action is packed between well crafted cinematic unraveling of the larger story. However, some aspects of the game are “business as normal”, as you will progress through missions, take control of businesses, pick pocket and manage your guild of assassins. Though, a few new features to the core gameplay do exist. Such as a new mode where you may defend your Assassin’s dens or new weapon called a hook blade.

Being a successful assassin is not always about solitude, as Revelations continues the multiplayer trend with both a co-op mode to conquer the world together, or a one on one match to prove who is the greatest assassin between friends. Multiplayer consists of three game modes: Escort, Capture the Chest, and the original Manhunt. In Escort, you will be escorting a V.I.P. Templar to a meeting place, or if you are on the attacking team, you kill the Templars and the V.I.P. Capture the Chest is Assassin’s Creed’s own version of “capture the flag” made popular in many online games and lastly Manhunt returns from last year’s Brotherhood online mode.

With amazing graphics, remarkable sound and gameplay that will keep you playing for hours on end, even when sometimes repetitive, you will find this game to be yet another one at the top of your list of favorite games this year.

Overall there is absolutely nothing bad I can say about the graphics. The sound is unmatchable, in my opinion, and deserves recognition. The gameplay is extremely repetitive yet is still fun. Some might find it stale after a while. As for the multi-player, it hasn’t really changed much from the style found in Brotherhood, but is still fun and enjoyable.
